WestJet is taking guests to an all-new destination…
SPACE!

April Fools!
WestJet may not actually be taking guests to space, but for April Fools 2022 I built a microsite convincing guests that they could embark on unearthly adventures with WestJet.
Award-winning:
In 2023, the WestJet-X microsite received an Ad Rodeo Anvil Award, recognizing it as the best-designed microsite from a creative agency in Alberta.
Background
The WestJet-X microsite was put together in one month. In collaboration with OLIVER Agency, I worked in a small pod with a developer, a writer and a marketing professional to bring a new product from conception to (fictional) launch.
OLIVER agency had a headstart ideating on the prank and came to WestJet with conceptual mockups to use as a jumping off point.
Big challenges
Taking inspiration from Virgin Galactic, I aimed to create a visually-immersive webpage with full-bleed, seamless imagery. However, Adobe Experience Manager, the CMS within which I had to work, did not support image bleeding, transparency or layered components - all design tricks that would help achieve the seamless look I was aiming for. I overcame this constraint by layering semitransparent gradients over images - creating the illusion that images melted straight into the page.
Time constraints were also as tight as they come: with just shy of a month to create a visual identity for a new product, create imagery, agree upon content AND develop it all, the project was a lesson in moving quickly and being agile.
